Career Strategy

Based on the assessments I have taken, and in the information offered by Moeller (2012), achieving a higher education is the most important key to securing a good career in the future. All but two of the jobs listed in the U.S. News and World Report require higher education and special skills training. Computer-based careers have the highest growth potential, which is unsurprising. I fully intend to take this information to heart, and to apply myself more diligently at school so that I can land a lucrative career in a field that interests me.

The approach toward a career will be based partly on my personal financial interests and goals, as well as a knowledge of my personality and character traits. I have a natural leadership ability and am an extraverted person. Therefore, I will do well in any corporate setting requiring me to work with others on a team basis. Any of the jobs listed in the Moeller (2012) article suits me, with a few exceptions. I appreciated the fact that the report indicates which urban areas are most promising, because I can also plan for my future by looking for real estate already. Thankfully, there are many jobs in the state of California.

Moving forward in my career will require a high degree of competition. Therefore, I will need confidence in my skills and ability. I intend to build my communication skills and network with as many people as possible in my chosen field. I have a divers background with multiple talents, and I believe these talents can be honed in almost any field. With a special interest in fields like science and computer software engineering, I stand a good chance of succeeding once I complete my graduate degree. Until then, I intend to network and build my skills.

Career Counseling and Multicultural Students in School-to-Work Transition Good career counseling always takes place within a cultural context, which is true regardless of ethnicity. Current theoretical models may not be adequate to explain the career behavior of racial and ethnic minorities. Vocational assessment has to be culturally sensitive, and only culturally appropriate tools should be used in vocational assessment. The goal of career counseling is to help clients make career choices that

From the list of personal dimensions of development produced by the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (Arredondo et al., 1996), gender is the dimension most neglected or ignored, in spite of the fact that gender intersects with all other dimensions across cultures (see Hansen, Gama, & Harkins, 2002). Whether internal or external, one major weakness is the need to motivate more counselor educators to value career counseling and to

When a client reports, during a counseling session, that he or she is unable to master a specific domain of behavior, the counselor should focus on the causes of these perceptions in the client's background experiences" and examine how a lack of skills and unsubstantiated perceptions of a lack of self-efficacy are holding the client back (Betz 2004:4).
