This paper proposes a quality improvement initiative aimed at improving hand hygiene compliance rates among healthcare providers in nursing organizations. This problem is particularly prevalent in acute care settings such as hospitals and can lead to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. It is certainly a problem in my healthcare setting where I work as a nurse.

Why a Quality Improvement Initiative is Needed and the Expected Outcome

It has been identified as the most effective way to prevent the transmission of infectious agents, including multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a significant problem in healthcare facilities, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs.

By implementing a quality improvement initiative aimed at improving hand hygiene compliance rates among healthcare providers, nursing organizations can help prevent the spread of HAIs and improve patient safety. This can be achieved through a multifaceted approach that includes education, reminders, feedback, and a culture of accountability (Bezerra et al., 2020).
