Brochure Health education brochures provide readers with a brief and often comprehensive solution to their general fitness questions. In many instances these health brochures are easily and accessible and provide key facts relevant to the brochure topic. To attract readers, health brochures are typically worded with large bold font, combined with warm, bright colors (Ackland-Snow, 1997). When viewing the Color Cancer brochure, it exhibiting many of these same characteristics and more. The brochure was comprehensive, bright, positive, and easily read irrespective of age level.

As the readability scale results below indicate, the brochure was proficient in its use of words and syllables to call the reader to action. Overall, I believe the brochure on colon cancer to be effective in its objective of educating and calling the consumer to action. To begin, the presentation within the brochure was very welcoming. It presented, many photos of couples and individuals engaging in fun, and exciting activities. Examples include mountain biking and working out with a gym facility.

To maintain the brochures professionalism, the presentation also incorporated photos of doctors and clinical physicians. I believe the combination of the photos in regards to presentation presented the reader with a welcoming introduction to the information supplemented by a degree of expertise. As mentioned briefly above, the colors of the brochure were also warm and welcoming. Varying shades of yellow, orange, and blue created a sense of calm with the reader.

The colors in conjunction with the large, simple text also allowed the reader to read the brochure seamlessly (Muzaffer Uysal, 2012). I believe the choice of font to be related directly to the brochures target audience of individuals between 45 and 64 years of age. As the brochure illustrates, individuals between the ages of 45 and 64 are most at risk to develop colon cancer. This older individuals therefore prefer to read with larger and simple text, that is easier on the eyes, as compared to their younger counterparts.

The presentation of the information was also very prudent. Generally speaking, readers typically read the first line of a brochure and subsequently decide if they want to read it or not. The first line of the brochure, as it relates to presentation, is therefore critical (Stauss, 2000). The brochure provides a distinctive first line stating that Colon Cancer is the number 2 cancer killer in America. This bold line, is very prudent as it encourages individuals to continue reading the text.

The text itself is easily read, as it is very short and succinct. The author of the brochure elected to use bullet points in combination with large bolded heading. Again, I believe this to be prudent as consumers can easily sift through information as it is needed as oppose to being forced to read the entire document. Important elements such as risk factors, symptoms, and prevention are bolded and highlighted with the brochure. These three elements are by far the most important.

Therefore, the author does a great job in directing the short attention span of the consumer to these three areas. When directed to these areas, the reader can easily comprehend the information as it is bulleted. If the consumer elected to skip the paragraph and instead read the bullets, they would do a good job of summarizing the entire material. This I believe, is evidence of the author's ability to compress relevant information into a succinct and comprehensible format.

Finally in regards to accuracy the brochure is very accurate in its wording. The bulleted points are well written and easily comprehensive. There were very few spelling and grammatical errors within the brochure itself. This lack of error, also contributes substantially to the brochure's credibility. If the organization is not thorough in its grammar, how can the consumer expect it to be thorough with the accuracy of the information? By limiting the brochures errors as it relates to accuracy, the brochure enhances its overall credibility.
