Reflection and Progression in Clinical Skills and Procedures
Introduction
Over the course of this practicum, I have dedicated myself to enhancing my clinical skills and procedures, striving for excellence in every aspect of patient care. This self-assessment shows the progress I have made as well as my commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Self-Assessment Summary
I am proud to report that I have achieved a level of confidence in a comprehensive range of clinical skills and procedures. From Rapid Strep Tests to more complex procedures like IUD Placement and Removal, I have progressed to a point where I can perform these tasks independently. My proficiency in diagnostics has also improved significantly, as evidenced by my ability to interpret Chest X-rays, Hemoglobin/Hematocrit (H/H) levels, and various laboratory/diagnostic tests.
In areas where I initially had little to no experience, such as Suturing, Staple Placement, and Joint Injection, I have actively sought out opportunities for hands-on practice and learning, resulting in a transition from needing supervision to confidently performing these procedures independently. This growth certainly shows my dedication to expanding my skill set and enhancing my clinical capabilities.
Reflection on Goals and Objectives
Looking back at the goals and objectives set at the beginning of this practicum, I am pleased to acknowledge that I have met and exceeded my expectations. My aim was to enhance proficiency in advanced surgical procedures, improve competence in specialized examinations, expand skills in reproductive health, and master new procedures. Through consistent practice, mentorship, and a proactive approach to learning, I have successfully achieved these goals, as indicated by my current level of confidence in performing a wide array of clinical procedures.
Strengths and Areas of Excellence
My strengths lie in my ability to quickly adapt and learn new skills, as well as my unwavering commitment to patient care. I have demonstrated excellence in both diagnostic and procedural skills, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care. My proficiency in reproductive health procedures and advanced surgical techniques is particularly noteworthy, as these were areas I had initially identified as opportunities for growth.
In conclusion, this practicum has been a transformative journey, marked by significant growth and development in my clinical skills and procedures. I have transitioned from requiring supervision to confidently performing a wide range of procedures independently, a testament to my dedication and hard work. As I move forward in my nursing career, I am equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide exceptional patient care, and I am committed to continuing my journey of lifelong learning and improvement.

3. Goal: Master Shave and Punch Biopsy Techniques
Specific: Achieve a high level of proficiency and confidence in performing shave and punch biopsies.
Measurable: Perform a combined total of 10 shave and punch biopsies, with at least 80% rated as successfully executed based on supervisor feedback.
Achievable: Engage in hands-on practice sessions and seek mentorship from experienced dermatologists or surgeons.
Relevant: Mastery of biopsy techniques is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment of dermatological conditions (Tran et al., 2008; Werner, 2009).
Time-Bound: Reach this level of proficiency within the next four months.
4. Goal: Enhance Overall Clinical Confidence and Competency
Specific: Build confidence and competency across all areas of clinical practice, with a focus on wound care, basic microscopy, and biopsy techniques.
Measurable: Achieve a Confident or Mostly Confident rating in self-assessment for all targeted clinical skills by the end of the practicum.
