Teaching Staff Title of Teaching Plan: The title of the teaching plan is the importance of hourly rounding with long-term psychiatric patients. The target audience will be RNs, LPNs and Nursing Assistants. They work in long-term care settings. This is their first exposure to hourly rounding and it will offer an overview as to how these objectives are achieved. Program Description: The nurses on staff play a critical role in helping to promote patient safety. (Vaismoradi, Salsali, & Marck, 2011) There are major benefits from utilizing the hourly rounding practices.

The most notable include: increased patient satisfaction and greater amounts of care. (Meade, Bursell and Ketelsen, 2006) Moreover, the staff plays an important part in conducting rounds at odds hours and unexpectedly. This mean that nurses must be motivated to engage in these practices from the positive benefits it provides (i.e. improved patient safety and care). These techniques have the capacity to prevent adverse effects which directly resulting in pressure ulcers, falls and unrelieved pain. This is has contributed to a number of unexpected deaths.

The strategy decreases the chances of the patient's condition from becoming worse. (Halm, 2009) Learning Objectives: The learning objectives are to teach the significance of conducting rounds in long-term care settings. This is achieved by discussing how the individual can gain critical amounts of thinking and insight utilizing Bloom's taxonomy. The most notable include: creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding and remembering key ideas. Creating is when new concepts are being introduced and their importance for any kind of healthcare practice.

This will be used to provide a foundation as to why nurses need to conduct rounds and its necessity for improving patient care. Evaluating is justifying the decision. These objectives will be accomplished by showing the adverse impacts of failing to address these issues and how this hurts a healthcare environment. Analysis is illustrating the importance of these relationships and how it will benefit everyone. This is achieved by showing what recent research has uncovered and the impact this has on stakeholders.

Applying these ideas, is utilizing the information to demonstrate how this is carried out. During this process, there is a focus on the number of rounds and the impact it is having on everyone. Understanding is when the individual can summarize the information that was presented in their own words. This will help them to have greater amounts of comprehension and the way can utilize them in the future. Remembering is when the person will recall and can apply these concepts on their own.

This means that they will practice the various techniques discussed as a part of their healthcare procedures. The action words that will be focused on include: life saving, safety and professionalism. Topical Outline: The students will be able to demonstrate how rounds are conducted, their frequency and the overall mindset they need to embrace during this process. During this process, they will be provided with a sample schedule and there will be a discussion of how these techniques are beneficial from some of the most successful healthcare professionals.

The methods of instruction that will be utilized will include: a discussion of the literature, a short video and having students demonstrate the way they will use these ideas as a part of their healthcare practices and procedures. There will then, be a comprehensive examination at the end. This is when each person will describe the importance of these ideas in their own words. This will help them to remember and apply them in the future.

(Desai, 2010) Instructional Methods: The content will be taught using a number of techniques in conjunction with each other. The most notable include: a lecture, interactive video, role playing, group discussion and practice examination. Power Points, handouts and audio visual tools will be utilized to connect with everyone. The various instructional methods will focus on a brief lecture, demonstration, collaborative learning and role playing. This will be used to reach out to students through various formats and techniques.

These insights will help them to understand the material and it will reinforce key ideas during the process. These tactics will ensure that students are provided with an introduction on how they should use patient rounds to effectively troubleshoot potential challenges early. This is when they can see the way this will reduce stress and enable them to enhance the quality of care provided. (Barkley, 2012) Learning Resources / Materials: The students will utilize journal articles and the simulation to understand / apply these concepts on their own.

The only assignment will be in class role playing. This will be followed by a comprehensive one question essay examination. The entire course will take a total of 1 to 2 hours. Methods of Evaluation: The evaluation method will be a one question essay exam. This is when the student will discuss the importance of conducting patient rounds in their own words. Prior to this, the instruction will observe.
