Objective 1: Analyze nursing history to expand thinking and provide a sense of professional heritage and identity.
The course provided ample support for this objective by incorporating modules on nursing history and its significance in shaping the profession. Historical case studies were explored, allowing us to analyze historical context, which expanded our thinking about professional heritage and identity. The materials used in the course also encouraged us to critically evaluate how historical events and societal changes influenced the nursing profession\\\'s development. I can draw upon the experiences and lessons of the past to inform my decision-making and practice (Comfort et al., 2020).
Objective 2: Understand other health professions\\\' scopes of practice to maximize contributions within the healthcare team.
The course provided a comprehensive overview of different health professions and their scopes of practice. For example, the course incorporated discussions and group projects that involved interaction with professionals from disciplines such as medicine, pharmacy, and physical therapy. This understanding facilitated effective teamwork and enhanced our ability to communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. This collaboration promotes patient-centered care and optimizes healthcare outcomes (Spaulding et al., 2021).
Objective 3: Use leadership skills to teach, coach, and mentor other members of the healthcare team.
The course gave ample support for developing leadership skills necessary for teaching, coaching, and mentoring thanks to exposure to leadership theories, communication strategies, and mentorship techniques. These skills are helpful for nurturing a supportive work environment, where team members can learn from each other and grow professionally. The material learned in this course has direct application in professional practice. If I apply the leadership skills learned in this course, I can create a positive learning environment (Heinen et al., 2019).
Objective 4: Articulate a personal philosophy and framework acknowledging professional and accrediting agency competencies relating to the role and scope of practice of the advanced practice nurse.
The course offered a framework and resources for me to articulate my personal philosophy and framework as an advanced practice nurse, thanks to numerous reflective exercises, guided discussions, and self-assessment tools. The material learned in this course has direct applicability to professional applications in terms of providing clarity of purpose, which enhances professional credibility, facilitates interprofessional collaboration, and fosters trust in the healthcare team (Gottlieb et al., 2021).
