¶ … Communication and Interaction Many of the problems that occur in an organization are the direct result of people failing to communicate. Faulty communication causes the most problems. It leads to confusion and can cause a good plan to fail. (Clark, 2000) In any kind of profession and industry, communication plays a vital role in the smooth operation and management of a work environment.

In a hospital environment, it is a very important element to observe proper communication and interaction to allow an effective workflow and service that hospitals must render to its patient. One example of communication technique is gender communication. This type of communication involves an interaction between males and females. Gender communication is usually demonstrated in work-related interactions of the hospital staffs such as the male doctors and the female nurses. This communication technique was effectively shown by the doctors and nurses during discussion of patient status.

Through an effective gender communication, the hospital staffs were able to deliver valuable healthcare services to their patients, without the barriers of gender discrimination that exist in other work environments. Another communication technique that exists in the hospital that I audited is body communication. Though this type of communication may be considered as an informal type of communication, it can still be considered as an effective technique in work activities in the hospital.

This technique is usually demonstrated during sensitive situations in the hospital, such as the announcement of a terminal disease of a patient, or even during the death of a patient. With an effective body communication, hospital staffs can converse to each other without the need of saying words that may worsen sensitive situations. Dealing with thinkers, realtors, directors, and intuitors is perhaps the most important element that the hospital staffs had shown based on my audit.

Almost all of the doctors, nurses, assistants, and other medical staffs have shown respect to each other. They demonstrated the capability of dealing with each other courteously and professionally. Despite of the differences in their work positions and status, most of them regard each other as colleagues who have the right to be heard and respected. By carrying out an effective communication style in dealing with each other, it is obvious in the work process and work flow of the hospital that its staffs work harmoniously with each other.

Thus, providing an effective performance of their respective responsibilities and delivering a valuable service to their patients. Some regarded that to be able to communicate effectively, the ability to persuade must come with communication. Moreover, anyone who has the ability to persuade others through communication has the gift of becoming a leader. Persuasive communication must be tied with leadership to allow a leader guide and lead his members with full cooperation.
