¶ … organization is the Department of Family and Consumer at a state-run university. In terms of organizational structure, the head of the department is Dr. Adam Lee. He is assisted by the graduate coordinator Dr. John Kim. Dr. Kim's role is to oversee the graduate students in the department, while Dr. Lee is responsible for the oversight of the undergraduate students. The two share responsibilities for faculty as well. Dr. Kim oversees the senior faculty while Dr. Lee oversees the junior faculty.
Both men are viewed as excellent leaders within the department. They have faced a number of budget cuts, but have managed to control costs and keep morale high during this difficult time. Both have scored consistently high in satisfaction surveys from both faculty and students.
For the most part, the organization is adequately staffed. There are challenges, however. For example, there is a furlough day for each staff, which can at times leave the department shorthanded. But everybody in the department pitches in and all of the work gets done. One of the contributing factors is that all of the personnel are well-trained.
The clients of the organization are the students. The school meets their needs by providing them with a wide-ranging education, which is available in many subjects. The organization is highly sensitive to the needs of the students, and responds to changes in those needs. The school as a whole takes a formal view of its interactions but members of the faculty often interact with students in an informal manner. On the formal side, we protect the students' rights with a handbook of ethics that is enforced throughout the organization.
