Philosophy concepts and applications

¶ … philosophy of Leadership and Administration school administrator should be more than just an authority figure. Particularly when it comes to someone whose job it is to oversee school athletic and physical educational programs, that person should be seen as a role model by all the students. A sports and physical education administrator should not merely be physically strong - he or she should also be strong of mind. When you are undertaking important decisions on a daily basis, you cannot afford to be passive or weak-willed. You must always be ready to act. This quality is rooted more in a person's personality than in their training. And it is a quality that I am endowed with.

My strongest attribute is my ability to think fast and make intelligent decisions on the spot. This is a particularly important quality when it comes to sports and physical education, as the students' well being is at stake. The point of a high quality sports and physical education program is to ensure that students remain healthy, fit, and physically active throughout their most pivotal years of development. By fostering a positive physical atmosphere on campus, such a program helps ensure that students will maintain healthy habits after they have finished with their studies and graduated.

Of course, in order to develop such a positive atmosphere, it is vital that the administrator have a strong relationship with all the teachers he or she is working with. If the administrator is not well liked and respected among the staff, then the teachers' unhappiness will then transfer in to the classroom setting. This is definitely something that should be avoided. Thankfully, in addition to my ability to think and act fast, I happen to love working with people. Furthermore, I believe in fostering an atmosphere of openness among the teaching staff. That means listening to any ideas or suggestions that a teacher might want to bring to the table. Running a school's sports and physical education program is not a "one man show." Rather, it is a collaborative effort. Everyone working for the school's athletic and physical education program should have a say. In fostering such an atmosphere of openness, I believe that this ensures a positive atmosphere among the staff.
