Germany is said to possess one of the world’s best healthcare systems due to its flexibility in choices and extensive coverage plans (Visa Guide, 2022). Based on each individual’s diverse needs, German plans are diversified with a wide range to suit each person’s requirements and medical needs. Germany has made it mandatory to get insured, even though a person is an international student, employee, or refugee (Visa Guide, 2022).

The length of stay within the country also does not impact the coverage facility that the government would provide, which is a strength in itself. It could be attributed to its characteristic of generosity without disparity, which is also specified in income-based common funds. Moreover, only 11% of the Germans seek private insurance (Tandon, 2020). Germany ranks 8th in the Commonwealth Fund Rankings based on the sickness funds that the region provides for its people (Tandon, 2020).

In contrast, the US healthcare system is costly and does not cover all its citizens. A majority of the population seeks private insurance as government plans ask for high premiums and deductibles, making the system weak in terms of health protection for the common public. It is also a significant barrier for most citizens due to its high costs as 80% of Americans are worried about their affordability (Tandon, 2020).

When results are compared, Germany’s results are somewhat mixed. Germany requires stronger education and intervention plans for obesity, smoking abstinence, and avoidance of alcohol consumption (Tandon, 2020). It should realize that the earlier the interventions are started, the prevention of mortality rate and high treatment costs would be better managed.
