This reflection paper examines how three core concepts — interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based practice (EBP), and cultural humility — shape advanced nursing practice at the master's level. The paper draws on course learning activities, including reflective journaling, group projects, and research critique exercises, to illustrate how theoretical knowledge translates into clinical decision-making. It connects these experiences to MSN Program Outcome 3 and sub-competency 1.1e, emphasizing lifelong learning and the translation of nursing science into practice. Supported by Wakibi et al. (2021) and Berndtsson et al. (2020), the paper argues that integrating these principles forms the cornerstone of patient-centered, culturally responsive, and evidence-informed nursing care.
Reflecting on my learning experience throughout this course, several concepts have profoundly influenced my understanding and approach to advanced nursing practice. One of the most impactful was interdisciplinary collaboration. This course emphasized working seamlessly with professionals from diverse disciplines to ensure holistic patient care. Another key takeaway was the focus on evidence-based practice (EBP). Understanding how to critically appraise and integrate current research into clinical decision-making has strengthened my commitment to delivering high-quality care (Wakibi et al., 2021). The discussions on cultural humility also highlighted the necessity of respecting and adapting to patients' diverse cultural backgrounds. This principle will remain central to my practice as a master's-prepared nurse.
These concepts will guide my actions and decisions as I envision my future role. For instance, I plan to foster collaborative environments where nursing expertise intersects with insights from other healthcare disciplines to solve complex patient challenges. By embracing evidence-based practice, I aim to lead initiatives that incorporate current research to refine clinical protocols, ensuring optimal outcomes (Wakibi et al., 2021). Moreover, cultural humility will help me build trust and rapport with patients, creating inclusive care strategies tailored to individual needs.
"Growth through journaling, group projects, and case studies"
"Research critique skills and evidence translation competency"
The knowledge and skills gained from this course have significantly shaped my approach to advanced nursing. By integrating interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based practice, and cultural humility into my professional philosophy, I am better prepared to influence health outcomes positively. These concepts, together with my commitment to lifelong growth and evidence translation, will serve as the cornerstone of my practice as a master's-prepared nurse.
