LBW can result from premature birth or intrauterine growth restriction, while genetic influences, maternal health, nutrition, and lifestyle choices during pregnancy could also be factors that affect it (Aarnoudse-Moens et al., 2009).

Environmental factors like the quality of prenatal care, maternal nutrition, exposure to toxins, and socio-economic status also impact the development of LBW infants.
