Teaching Assistant Resume
Teaching is an essential part of learning. Without a teacher's effort, there is no way a student can ever succeed. As a student and tutor, I have witnessed both sides of the coin, seeing how teaching can impact not only the learning environment, but also the overall motivation of the student to learn as well. Therefore, I understand the complex combination of factors that all blend together to create a fertile learning environment.
To understand the mind of the student, you must reflect on your own experience as a student. I know well the stress of taking college classes and having to deal with some subjects that are not my specialty as a result of having to complete some undergraduate major requirement. Not all students in a classroom will want to be experts in that field. This is something I learned through actual experience in classrooms as a student myself. An educator needs to understand what students are planning to do n order to best collaborate with their individual needs. Having experienced life as an undergraduate myself helps me connect with the average student on campus. I have taken those same pre-requisite courses. Yet, at the same time, I have taken the wide variety of courses I have had the luxury to study and kept them to my advantage. Rather than just simply going through each course, I really engaged myself in the material. I know that I wanted to have some future in education myself, so I made sure to expose myself to as many facets of educations as I could have as an undergraduate student. This often meant taking courses I did not necessarily need, but I thought would benefit the overall foundation for a proper educated mindset in the twenty-first century. I had completed all the required course load, and then more in order to get a broader scope of education to best serve as a foundation for being in a position to educate others.
Ability to work well within the unique environment of undergraduate courses.
As a recent student myself, it is clear I can relate and work with younger student populations; yet, I have also had stellar records with professors and teaching staff that has further augmented my academic career thus far. I have always worked well with professors, having a close relationship with many of my undergraduate professors. The close student to educator bond is crucial to the development of a strong foundation for critical thinking because it helps provide not only praise, but also the constructive criticism that will push you forward. I have also had an amazing relationship with several TAs throughout my undergraduate career. This has helped expose me to the type of work they do, but also to the level of commitment they must reserve to serve their students with passion and respect. Through my experience, I have learned that collaboration with a TA can make a dramatic impact on the learning environment for students. This has helped me succeed in my own academic career, but has also set a precedent where I understand I would need to provide a collaborative environment to potential students under my care in order for them to maximize the benefits of their own education. Also, dealing with my professors and TAs has helped expose me to how different learning styles impact the overall educational environment. I have seen successful strategies work wonders, not only for me but for my peers. Yet, on the other hand, I have seen not so successful strategies and fail miserably, causing students to loose out on crucial educational opportunities.
