This paper presents a parent's personal statement written in support of a teenage son's application to high school. The mother reflects on the joy of motherhood and her family's commitment to education despite limited academic backgrounds. She describes her son's consistent academic performance, participation in extracurricular activities, and well-developed social skills. The statement also highlights the son's creativity, adaptability, and respectful character as qualities that would benefit the prospective school. The piece serves as a model of a heartfelt yet structured parental endorsement letter for secondary school admission.
Every person has something in life that they feel has fulfilled their existence. It can be a dream partner, a dream job, a new house, or an exotic holiday. Whatever makes one happy is also something that brings a smile, provides motivation, and makes life enjoyable — something one could never imagine living without.
For me, as an adult and as a woman, the moment that most significantly changed my life and gave me new perspectives came fifteen years ago: the birth of my son. My world has revolved around him ever since. I personally believe that a parent's greatest achievement is found in their children. My constant purpose has therefore been to raise my son surrounded by love and care, and to provide him with everything he needed for harmonious growth — both material goods and, equally importantly, values and education.
What is it about my son that gives me joy? There are so many things. Being a mother gives me every reason to believe that I have the best, most beautiful, and most intelligent son imaginable. I found joy in everything he did — from his first smile to his first steps and first words. Later, I felt both joyful and proud to see him absorb the values and norms I tried to instill in him, and to watch him grow into a respectful and kind teenager.
It is difficult to ask a parent to adopt an objective style when describing their child's abilities, especially in a school admissions statement. Every child is the best in the eyes of those who raise and love them. Nevertheless, I will try to emphasize the concrete characteristics and abilities that best describe my son and that will assure you he is well suited for entry into your high school.
As parents, both my husband and I have maintained a consistent focus on our son's education and on helping him develop strong academic skills. Having grown up and lived in Taiwan while constantly facing financial difficulties, we were unable to pursue higher academic qualifications — we both completed only middle school. We worked hard to compensate for this gap and have since reached a stable position: my husband is now a successful businessman, and we are fortunately able to provide our family with everything it needs.
This personal history has given us a deep appreciation for the importance of education in achieving success. It is precisely because of this understanding that we have encouraged our son to take school seriously and to apply himself consistently. He has always placed among the top students in his class, and we have never received a complaint from any of his teachers.
Our son has demonstrated reliable and commendable academic performance throughout his schooling. He approaches his studies with discipline and focus, reflecting the values we have worked hard to model and teach at home. His teachers have consistently confirmed what we observe as parents: that he is attentive, diligent, and respectful in the classroom environment.
We are confident that this foundation will serve him well at the high school level, and that he will continue to meet and exceed the academic expectations placed before him.
