Optimal Ticket Pricing Policy
Of the people who responded, 80% (four out of five) stated they would pay more than $10 for a game ticket — an encouraging finding, since $10 represents the higher end of the contemplated pricing scale. Even non-baseball fans indicated a willingness to pay more than $10. Because non-fans are less committed than dedicated baseball fans, the optimal pricing policy may lean toward charging as much as $12 for a single-game ticket purchased on the day of the game, while setting the advance-purchase single ticket at $10.
Survey results also showed that individuals earning between $22,500 and $74,999 make up the largest share of baseball fans. These middle-income families account for approximately 76% of the 625 respondents. This finding reinforces the rationale for a $10 base ticket price. With a season budget of $1.9 million, breaking even is the minimum acceptable outcome — and the break-even point of just over $1 million leaves some room for calculated risk.

The logic behind this structure is that the revenue generated most closely aligns with costs at these price points. Single-game tickets are typically purchased by casual attendees who may not return and are less likely to spend at concession stands. These buyers are the least price-sensitive, so charging them the highest rate is consistent with both research findings and sound pricing logic. Conversely, the most loyal fans — those buying multi-game packages — receive the lowest per-game price because they will continue generating concession revenue across many visits.
The overall optimal single ticket price is $10, as it is associated with approximately 80% attendance and the best combination of ticket and concession sales. When five-game tickets are purchased at $8, those attendees are likely to spend around $8 at the concession stands on each of their five visits. Higher-priced single tickets are primarily purchased by one-time visitors who may spend at concessions only once. Keeping the 5-game price at $8 results in a revenue loss of only $0.48 per ticket compared to charging $10, whereas pricing the 5-game ticket at $10 would produce a larger per-ticket loss of $2.50 relative to costs.
