Knowledge Through Lifelong Learning Nursing is a field that is constantly evolving because of several factors, especially the ever changing needs of patient populations. As a result, lifelong learning is one of the most important elements of nursing education because of the nature of the nursing profession. Professionals in the nursing field are considered as lifelong learners because of the evolving nature of nursing and the ever changing needs of patient populations. According to Davis, Taylor & Reyes (2014), lifelong learning in nursing is a dynamic procedure since it includes personal and professional aspects of life and takes place within the formal and informal setting. Through lifelong learning, nurses are engaged in a process of looking for and identifying new ideas and perspectives relating to the nursing profession. This paper focuses on examining two major aspects of lifelong learning in nursing i.e. how the nursing process enhances critical thinking and problem solving and how nursing actions and process prioritizes patient care.

These steps are intertwined to create a framework through which nurses can plan and implement quality nursing care. As nurses carry out the various steps in the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving emerge as two major components for ensuring the delivery of quality care to patients. This is primarily because the nursing process involves using critical thinking and problem-solving to guide all nursing actions when providing patient care. The nursing process enhances critical thinking and problem solving through providing avenues for nurses to examine clinical judgments and identify evidence-based practices in clinical practice. During clinical practice, nurses challenge existing assumptions, examine the context, and search for new measures of carrying out their respective roles and responsibilities in patient care delivery (Yildirim & Ozkahraman, 2011). When making clinical judgments, nurses utilize several cognitive and psychomotor skills that contribute to improved critical thinking and problem solving.
How Nursing Process and Actions Prioritize Patient Care

Through enhancing critical thinking and problem solving, nursing actions and the nursing process also prioritizes clients/patient care. As previously mentioned, nurses challenge existing assumptions in clinical practice, evaluate the context of nursing practice,…
