High School Years
Mine was different
Life is strange: you spend your time wishing for things that you hope you can accomplish in the future and when you are finally in the phase when the future turns into the present you realize that you miss your past. I remember my first days of high school feeling embarrassed that I was a freshman and that all the "cool kids" were older than me. I tried to fit in as best as I could and I did not hesitate to make a fool out of myself or to perform a daring stunt in order for the rest of the school to see that I was really something special. However, I gradually realized that I did not actually have to do all this and that all I had to do was to have fun with my friends, whom I appreciated for who they really were and who appreciated me for who I really was.
The summer was getting near and the first year of high school was almost over. I and my friends were waiting for the holiday to begin in order for us to feel less interested in school-related affairs and to actually enjoy life for the simpler things. We were in Mrs. Simpson's class when Joey throws a note my way hoping that I would catch it. I used to have a lot of fun with Joey as we were sending each-other all kinds of notes with messages about what to do in the summer and even after classes. This one time conditions were different because the note fell on Mary's desk. The note asked if I wanted to come to his place after that class (we used to do that a lot, skipping school in order to play video games). Mary blushed as she read the note and then she looked over to Joey and smiled. I was struggling not to laugh and Joey was perplexed. I don't know what happened after that class, but I know that I did not go to Joey and that him and Mary later became a couple.
I had a crush of my own during high-school, but I knew that she was beyond my league. Jessica was probably the most beautiful girl in the school and she was a senior (I was a sophomore at the time). I wrote her the most beautiful poem that I could possibly think of and I hoped that this would show her that I was actually different from the other guys. She was actually impressed with my letter, but she didn't feel the same way for me. She practically asked me to write a poem for a boy that she was fond of at the time and she ended up dating him as a result of that poem. I know - life can sometimes be very cruel!
One of the things that I enjoyed most about high school was the fun you could have during Ms. Kissinger's classes. Ms. Kissinger was about thirty-two years old and most of time she spent in class she talked to us about her experiences when she was young and about her life in general. One of the weirdest things about this was that she incorporated the information that she wanted to teach in these stories and we ended up going through a class that was fun and educational. I believe that she was one of the only teachers who really like what they do and do their best to do their jobs. She addressed each student individually and she would even persuade some of the most rebellious people in our class to take up learning.
