Alexa points out that the relevance of informatics in nursing practice cannot be overstated. This is more so the case given that informatics come in handy in various aspects of healthcare such as research, education, and administration. To ensure that technology is integrated in the said aspects, Darvish et al (2014) suggest that nurses should possess the relevant informatics competencies. This is instrumental in efforts to improve care outcomes. It is important to note that apart from helping in translation and interpretation of data, integration of technology in practice also helps nurses embrace more effective practice formats, i.e. in relation to patient information retrieval. Alexa also points out that nursing informatics involves project management whereby resources are coordinated and activities planned and organized. According to Sipes (2016), project management happens to be one of the most essential competencies in informatics. This is more so the case given that it not only impacts nursing informatics skills, but also provides a framework for organizing projects and processes.

Magdalene

Magdalene indicates that nursing informatics is a crucial EHR aspect given that it decreases unintended errors, decreases healthcare costs, and improves coordination of care. According to Bowman (2013), electronic health records should be integrated in a proper manner so as to eliminate emergent complexities. Magdalene also indicates that technology is incorporated in project management whereby technological skills, knowledge, and techniques are implemented to ensure efficiency. In addition to the project management phases highlighted by my colleague, efforts of this nature as Maserang (2002) suggests - require the deployment of various technological tools so as to promote coordination and efficiency. One of the tools that can be deployed in project management happens to be the Gantt chart.
