Ethical Standards
The Doctor of Nursing Practice student is expected to maintain the ethical standards outlined in the Doctoral Project Ethics Pledge, which address the following:
· Maintaining confidentiality: In all project documents and reports (including drafts), the student is required to remove names of individuals and the site as well as generalize the location. The student is only required to share the project in the online classroom. It is up to the Site Leader to choose whether they wish to publicize the project or its findings beyond that.
· Protecting patients: No data will be collected from patients or families.
· Complying with regulations and site policies: The student will be responsible for complying with the site policies and requirements regarding this type of scholarly work. These project activities qualify as Quality Improvement (as opposed to research) because the project involves synthesis and application of established and tested quality standards and/or systematic monitoring, assessment, or evaluation to ensure that existing quality standards are being met. The project does NOT develop paradigms, test new methods/standards, follow a research design, or involve a protocol that overrides clinical decision-making.
Project Activities
The doctoral student named above is involved in staff education that will be conducted under the auspices of the site. The student is approved to collect formative and summative evaluation data via anonymous staff questionnaires, and is also approved to analyze internal, de-identified site records that the Project Mentor deems appropriate to release for the student’s doctoral project. This approval to use the site’s data pertains only to this doctoral project and not to the student’s future scholarly projects. The Site Leader signatory below confirms authorization for these activities at the site.
