Workforce Development And Management In Nursing Essay

Priority Area

Chipps et al. (2021) conducted a study on setting the agenda for research in nursing leadership and administration science. The study was conducted on the premise that the science of nursing administration and leadership is the foundation for the preparation and professional practice of nurse leaders. These researchers recognize that nurse leaders rely on sound science in order to enhance care and health while reducing the costs of healthcare across all their levels and settings. As a result, the study identifies six key priority areas for research in nursing leadership and administration. Through identifying these six priority areas, the researchers sought to help fill gaps in the lack of potential new research topics in nursing leadership and administration.

One of these areas that is a priority for nursing is the development and management of a nursing workforce to meet present and future needs in the healthcare industry. Based on this study, workforce development and management was the 2nd highest-ranked priority. I believe this area is a priority for nursing because of the current nursing shortage. Due to the current nursing shortage, the healthcare field is faced with challenges relating to the supply and demand of nursing labor to meet the current and future healthcare needs. Without an adequate supply of nursing labor, the healthcare industry will be unable to meet current and future needs.

Given the increased need for adequate nursing labor, effective workforce planning is essential to address current and future healthcare needs. This comes at a time when the healthcare needs of different populations continue to increase. Workforce development and management is essential for nursing because it would ensure an adequate supply of nursing labor to meet healthcare needs. Therefore, the different stakeholders in the nursing field should design different measures for workforce development and management. In this case, new and innovative workforce strategies are required to meet current and future nursing labor demands.
