Once eligibility is confirmed, participants will be assigned to a drug treatment or counseling program comprising 10 therapy sessions offered once per week over 10 weeks. Participants will meet with their counselors for a one-hour session at least once a week and will be subjected to narrative therapy alongside regular treatment techniques.
The narrative therapy sessions will involve description and progression therapy, through which participants will report on their progress in dealing with substance abuse. The narrative therapy techniques employed in this study include exploring distinctive outcomes, mapping the various impacts of the problem, and externalizing conversations, as described by White (2007).
