Collaboration with other departments will be required to ensure smooth functioning of each production and an inclusive learning process for all students. Common core values — such as teamwork, empathy, accomplishment, and respect — are targeted throughout the production plan in order to support the social and emotional development of the children.
A book musical incorporates the mid-twentieth-century traditions of theatre, in which performances, characters, dialogues, and costumes combine with music to create a coherent dramatic presentation. Singers, dancers, and songs create a dramatic display of a story that guides the audience through a theatrical experience rooted in that era's operatic traditions, while remaining distinct from opera itself.
Musical education through this production will help students understand why integrating music alongside mainstream studies is important. The second-year production focuses on teaching students about music history in an engaging way. Students will learn how music began and evolved in response to the listening preferences of audiences, acquainting them with the diverse range of music styles and genres that have developed over time.

This music style was selected for Year 2 because of the differences in attitude and engagement it produces in students. Teaching songs with technology promotes a positive student attitude, while learning to play instruments and sing supports memory development (Ozdemir & Ciftcibasi, 2017). The use of musical instruments makes music lessons more enjoyable and accelerates the learning process naturally. Learning pop music also induces greater natural motivation compared to studying music theory in isolation (Ozdemir & Ciftcibasi, 2017). Group singing was found to be particularly energetic and to boost collaborative participation.
The guitar is the most important musical instrument in pop and rock music. Introducing this instrument into the production develops concentration in students, as focusing on a single note-learning task keeps them engaged for longer periods (Hope, n.d.). Music functions as a form of therapy, and developing relaxation and patience simultaneously yields positive results for students' overall academic achievement. The guitar is also well suited to building confidence and hand-eye coordination. The dramatics teacher will handle the remaining instruction on acting and character presentation. The theatrical portion — including the history and ethnography of the genre — can be taught using technology, slides, presentations, and online resources without additional investment.
