Mary Landrieu, Senator From Louisiana: Views On Issues Of Federal Government And State Government Essay

Mary Landrieu, the senator from Louisiana is known for her radical stand concerning various aspects that are handled by the federal government and she has always expressed her views very openly without fear of reprimand or political pressures. Her stand about the role that the federal government should play in the development of the Louisiana state is apparent. She has constantly criticized the dismal participation of the federal government in the development of this state and has always insisted that the budget of the federal government should reflect first the values and the priorities of the American people and not the foreign lands (Brainy Quotes, 2012). Landrieu also maintains that the federal government has not done enough in the development of the South Louisiana as well as the gulf region, especially in reference to the health care and education. She is also known to be very critical of the federal government over the underdevelopment of the region yet the federal government has been making money to the tune of $165 billion over the past 50 years yet, these taxes that are levied on the oil that comes off the same gulf coast goes out to build other areas of the U.S.A. except the place where it comes from.

She has advocated for the improvement of the teacher quality and the quality public charter schools. She also advocated for the federal government to focus more on the early childhood education and the physical condition of the schools in Louisiana (United States Senate Media Center, 2012). She has also urged the federal government to help in the implementation of the tenets of the K-12 education system so as to ensure that each and every pupil gets quality education in this 21st century in conducive environment.
It is also worth noting that Landrieu has been an advocate for quality education for a very long time. One of the most significant aspects that she has fought for in the education system has been the bipartisan overhaul of the No Child Left Behind Act. This Act required that each state had to develop an assessment in the basic skills that were to be given to all students is a given grade, and this was a prerequisite for the states to receive funding from the federal government. In this bill, the standards are not set at the national level but are set by the individual state. Landrieu has been a supporter of the NCLB system from the time of its conception in 2002 and has seen a lot happen under this policy.
