Educational Leadership: Letters of Recommendation

Dear Admissions Committee:

Please accept this letter as my recommendation for Mr. John Doe for graduate study in educational leadership. As the head of a department in our school district, I have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Doe for the past 6 years and can readily testify to his qualifications for graduate study. During his tenure with us, Mr. Doe consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to improving the lives and learning outcomes of his students. Moreover, he has a unique ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and his students consistently demonstrate sustained academic and personal growth.

In addition to his outstanding teaching skills, I can also confirm that Mr. Doe is a strong leader. For example, he has taken on numerous leadership roles within our department, including leading professional development sessions for his peers, serving as a mentor for new teachers and acting as an advisor for several student organizations. Furthermore, he undertakes each of these leadership roles with a high degree of professionalism and a firm commitment to continuous learning. These qualities will undoubtedly serve him well in any future educational leadership role.

In sum, I am confident that Mr. Doe possesses “the right stuff” to be an outstanding leader in education, and I strongly endorse him for graduate study in this field. Thank you for our attention and please let me know if I can answer any questions you may have about this future leader.

Best regards,

Dear Admissions Committee:

Thank you for your attention to this letter of recommendation for Mr. John Jones for graduate study in educational leadership. As the department head of special education, I have had the opportunity and privilege to work with Mr. Smith over the past several years. Based on my numerous interactions with Mr. Jones and my empirical observations of the positive effects he has had on other teachers and his students, it is clear that this educator has a bright future in educational leadership. Likewise, it is also my opinion that Mr. Jones has an in-depth understanding of the unique needs of a diverse group of students, including those from other cultures as well as those with disabilities. In response to these challenges, Mr. Jones developed a range of innovative teaching strategies that support their learning and development. Not surprisingly, his students consistently show strong personal and academic growth.

In addition to his teaching skills, Mr. Jones has also consistently demonstrated strong leadership throughout his time with us. Not only has he accepted multiple leadership roles within our department such as delivering professional development sessions for his colleagues, he has also volunteered to act as a mentor for new teachers on numerous occasions and served as chair of several committees. He has consistently served in these leadership roles with a high level of professionalism and an unwavering commitment to continuous learning, and I have no doubt that he has the potential to be an outstanding leader in the field of education.
