Standard Outline of Presentation The purpose of this presentation is to inform the audience about why voters are angry in today's political climate so that they might better understand their choices at the polls this November. The central idea of this presentation is that voters are angry because they perceive the Establishment to be against them, the system to be "rigged," and the wars in the Middle East to be unending and dangerous to global security.

The ideal audience for this presentation would be anyone attempting to understand why this election is seeing two unpopular candidates in a presidential contest -- on the one hand, a political insider and polished member of the Washington Establishment, and on the other hand an unpolished outsider who seeks to represent Middle America. The audience could be broad and include all genders, races, and ages.

This topic is important for the audience because an upcoming election is fast approaching that could have a direct and tremendous impact on the future of their lives. Presentation Plan Introduction 1. The people are angry! 2. Thesis Statement: Studies show that the American public is angry because they feel that an Establishment is concerned more about its own preservation than about the public it is supposed to serve and that endless wars in the Middle East have given rise to terrorism throughout the world. 3. Preview of Main Points a.

The issue with the Establishment is that voters are angry because they perceive that the people who run the government do not really care about the 99%, that the Establishment really only represents Big Business. b.

The issue with the wars in the Middle East is that ever since 9/11 America has been involved to varying degrees in conflicts in the Middle East and rather than these conflicts being resolved they appear to be escalating now with Russia and Iran joining forces to help Syria, where America wants to remove Assad and where the threat of WWIII starting seems more possible with every escalation. Main Point I: Voters are angry because they do not feel represented. a.

As Bakker, Rooduijn, and Schumacher (2016) show, the psychological roots of populist voting and anti-establishmentarianism are located in the extent to which voters feel their candidate is agreeable towards them. The less agreeable (like-minded, representative) a candidate is, the less likely voters are to support him or her. b. The Establishment is already coming apart overseas -- in England, for example, the people voted to leave the EU. A trend of anti-establishment action may be beginning that will reverse decades of Establishmentarian doctrine (Treib, 2014). c.

As Wikileaks shows, the Establishment wants to promote "free trade" that really just allows big corporations to rule over sovereign states. People feel like they are losing their sovereignty and it is impacting the way they vote (Stewart, 2016). This is one meme that spread across the Internet and social media in the wake of information leaded about the TPP free trade deal. Main Point II: a. Wars in the Middle East are ongoing. In Syria, there is much plotting behind the scenes by Western Establishment politicians to remove Assad.

It is creating conflict because Assad has much support from Russia and other states (Durden, 2016). b. The media is complicit in projecting state propaganda. It frustrates much of the voting electorate. Many voters do not want to affiliate with either mainstream party (Altheide, 2007). c. The reasons used to justify ongoing wars are shown to be shallow and superficial. The public is responding to a candidate who promises to work with the same states who the Establishment wants to vilify and oppose with military force (Etzioni, 2015).

Conclusion Studies show that people are angry. Summary of main points: a.
