Personal Statement The Art of Dentistry believe that dentistry is a form of art. Many times, a dentist is faced with a patient who has a number of severe problems with their teeth. I welcome the challenge of encouraging reluctant patients to try new treatments and finding creative means to transform their mouth. Not only will I have to be creative with my motivation of my patients, I will also have to be creative in formulating their course of treatment. I believe that each patient should be looked upon as a blank slate with a world of possibilities available to them. I do not feel that patients should receive just the same basic treatment, and rushed through as though on an assembly line.

They must obtain an accurate medical history from patients in order to properly treat them, since a number of medical ailments can have an adverse effect on the patient if not addressed correctly.

Dentists must have a knowledge of pharmacology since they use a number of medications in their practices. They must be properly trained in anesthesia, and know the signs and symptoms of possible allergic reactions to medications. A dentist must also understand the compositions of the products used to treat various oral issues. It is essential to understand the different types of fillings available, and know which is the best type to use in each case. Many have had bad experiences while visiting dentists in the past, and therefore have not had a proper checkup in years.
