Drug Abuse Precursors And Recover Methods Essay

Claros, E., & Sharma, M. (2012). The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Abuse of Alcohol, Marijuana, and Tobacco among College Students. Journal of Alcohol & Drug Education, 56(1), 8-37. The article is a review of whether or how relationships exist between emotional intelligence and the abuse of alcohol, marijuana or tobacco among college students. The study defines emotional intelligence as a person's faculties relevant to perception, utilization, understanding and the overall regulation of emotions. The paper looked at whether someone's level of emotional intelligence (EI) correlates to the use of legal or illicit drugs and, if so, to what degree.

This article pertains to the subject of what leads people to engage in chemical use or dependency and what tends to keep people away from it.

This report look sat the use of general and alcohol-related social media...

The paper notes that this is an important topic because alcohol advertisers are increasingly using social media and other digital avenues to advertise their wares. This article is much like the prior one except it looks at the correlation between the social media efforts of alcohol distributors and brands and how college students act in response.
This study is relevant because it looks at the social media effect on alcohol use.

Misch, D. (2007). "Natural Recovery" From Alcohol Abuse Among College Students. Journal Of American College Health, 55(4), 215-218. http://dx.doi.org/10.3200/jach.55.4.215-218

This third report follows along a fairly common theme with the second in that it focuses on college students on alcohol. Instead of how college students get hooked on alcohol, this report instead looks at the "natural recovery" method that many college students use to get off of alcohol. To clarify, these natural recovery methods are ones that are personally done and executed rather than going to a medical professional or using an intervention ordained, approved and known about by the school

This article is relevant because it explores the other side of alcohol abuse. Also dealing with college students, it explores one way that college students try to extricate themselves from alcohol abuse rather than one of the ways (like social media advertising) that are used to lure them in.

This report explains a form of comorbidity that exists with some substance-abusers. Indeed, some people only abuse one drug while some abuse more than one. This study focuses not only on that but it focuses as well on a certain race of drug abusers (black people), a certain race (women) and only black women that are out of treatment for crack abuse. There are also mentions in this study of comorbidity with sexually risky behaviors, cocaine use and so forth. Drinkers of all levels (light, moderate and heavy) were included.

This report is relevant because it explores the comorbidity of different abused drugs.
