One of the diseases of lipoprotein metabolism is hypolipoproteinemia. It is a condition that occurs when there are abnormally low levels of lipids or fats. Such low levels of fats could be caused due to genetic disorders or other conditions like an overactive thyroid, undernutrition, some form of chronic infection, low levels of blood or anemia, cancer, and sometimes reduced absorption of foods from the digestive zone1. These genetic deformations can cause other problems such as chylomicron retention disease, familial hypobetalipoproteinemia, and abetalipoproteinemia. Sometimes, even having low LDL cholesterol levels, people show no symptoms or signs of the illness. When such conditions occur during infancy or early childhood days, serious treatment could be required.
