Not only will these countries stop accepting outsourced projects but will have enough capital and knowledge to utilize their manpower for their own good and to their own advantage. This would result in massive competition in which we would emerge as the losing party because by then we would have lost both our expertise in production and pool of manpower.
It is our duty as the more developed and knowledgeable nation to help these third world countries overcome health and pollution problems instead of making it worse for them. This is a sign of imperialism where we try to justify our unethical use of other person's environment and resources. This imperialism was further strengthened by the sinister and utterly cruel theories of Summers who came up with the forgone earning arguments in the first place. Countering his theory, one African writer wonders: We need to establish an example for them whereby it would become easier for them to implement their environment laws and we must also offer production projects only if they are safer for the people in those countries. By ignoring environmental laws, we would only be making a poor country poorer. This is a tactic used by developed countries to keep developing countries down. It is something that developing countries may have failed to understand until now but they won't allow this suppression and oppression for very long.
The question this raises is why should the poverty -- and debt-ridden African people that have been globally marginalized and discriminated be further forced into giving up their universal right to health and life in order to ensure that their "civilized" western counterparts are not harmed by the toxic waste generated by their own civilization? I would thus never support any project by our firm to a third world country unless it is backed by the assurance that health and environment would be protected. We cannot forget that it is our ethical and moral duty to help those who cannot help themselves instead of hurting them even further and suppressing them in the name of making them stronger. This is reverse progress which is utterly selfish in nature and which seeks to serve the interests of no one but the developed countries. It is no surprise that this argument was first presented by a person from the developed world.
