CUNY SPS RN-BSN: Personal Statement
Born in the Ukraine, I have lived in the United States for more than sixteen years. Currently, I have RN license in New York and I am working in NJ hospital as patient care technician. I desire to get my BSN degree at CUNY SPS and then obtain my RN license in NJ.
Before coming to the US, I worked as a registered nurse in the Ukraine for many years. For ten years, I was a registered nurse in the emergency department of the Donetsk Trauma Hospital (1999-2009) and for five years I worked as a registered nurse at the Donetsk Reproductive Center (1994-1999). I gained extensive experience seeing patients who had experienced trauma in the ER, including cardiac patients, and had daily hands-on encounters with patients who I had to assess quickly and compassionately. I also collaborated extensively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care. At the reproductive clinic, I had the experience of seeing the same patients regularly throughout their long health journeys and established longstanding relationships with people of a variety of backgrounds. I acted as an advocate for patients during stressful and emotional times which affected their reproductive health.
The breadth and depth of my experience makes me well-prepared to cope with the demands of the CUNY SPS RN-BSN. Nursing has always been part of my professional life and identity and I am determined to continue to practice in the United States at the highest level of my capabilities and continue to be of service to patients. I am already very familiar with online education from the classes I took at Kean University so I have no doubt I would be able to thrive at CUNY. The program is comprehensive and would give me the experience I desire in leadership and management as well as continuing to expand my nursing skills.
