This admission essay presents a candidate's motivations for pursuing an MBA with a focus on international management consulting. The author outlines a progression from early interest in business management to owning a spa, and articulates short- and long-term career goals centered on joining and eventually founding a consulting firm. The essay discusses the candidate's reasons for selecting a specific MBA program, highlighting courses in international business, leadership, and human resources. It also reflects on significant personal risks — including immigrating from Iran to the United States — and professional risks such as launching an independent business, while describing the skills and international experiences that prepare the author for a global consulting career.
I have always wanted to help other people and to start my own business. By attending this MBA program I can pursue both goals simultaneously, as I intend to start a management consulting company. Before doing so, however, I want to work for an established consulting firm in order to develop solid professional experience. I am genuinely interested in business management and eager to expand the knowledge and abilities I already have.
My interest in management began in high school, where I learned the fundamentals of the discipline. I came to understand the importance of management and how it can be applied to improve almost any activity — whether professional or part of daily life. I also learned that management principles can be used to organize different types of activities and enhance their results. I believe that people can improve their performance by learning and applying sound management strategies.
By attending this program, I expect to work for a consulting company, become an expert in business consulting, and eventually advance to senior management positions. Management consulting has always appealed to me because it offers the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of business activities, rather than focusing on a single type of business as an owner or operator would. My intention is to expand my business knowledge across several directions and sectors.
After developing sustainable practice in the field, I will determine which business sector best suits my interests. I intend to explore several different sectors to identify which provides the most meaningful challenges. I also hope that faculty in the program will help guide me toward the business fields where I can make the greatest contribution.
I also have a strong interest in developing an international career. The opportunity to study business management in different countries can help me build a nuanced understanding of organizational cultures around the world. Management consulting, by its nature, often involves collaboration with business partners across countries who operate under different management styles. Studying organizations in varied cultural contexts is therefore an important part of my preparation.
I chose this degree after thoroughly analyzing the offerings of several universities. I examined program structure, student opportunities, innovative features, course offerings, and faculty profiles. This analysis led me to conclude that this MBA program represents the best choice for a student seeking to develop solid managerial abilities for a career in management consulting.
The most decisive factor in my decision is the program's opportunity to study in different regions of the world, including Atlanta, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, and others. I am particularly interested in the internship component involving Chinese companies. These experiences allow students to observe and understand different management styles and organizational cultures firsthand. The program's emphasis on cultural diversity reinforces the global perspective that management consultants must develop.
I am especially drawn to this MBA program because of the breadth and depth of its course offerings. The courses I find most compelling include: Business Analysis, International Business Environment, Leadership Practices, Commercial Diplomacy, Global Operations and Logistics, Human Resources Management and Organizational Behavior, Marketing Management, Asian Experience, Strategic Business Communication, International Affairs and Economic Integration, and International Marketing. My preference for these courses reflects my strong orientation toward the international business field.
Business Analysis is arguably among the most important areas of study for aspiring business consultants. It equips students with the ability to transform corporate data into information that informs sound management decisions. The International Business Environment course is equally valuable, as it provides comprehensive insight into economic, social, and political developments at the global level. Understanding the macro-environment is essential for identifying the opportunities and threats that shape a company's competitive strategy.
