Fred is also affected with an issue of not fully supporting as well as, providing his wife with enough money for the lifestyle she used to, finding himself in a marriage that declines. The second victim of the Second World War is Al Stephenson. Of the three men characters, Al is the only man who is married with two children. However, he is very happy when he joins his family back in the society; unfortunately it becomes so awkward for him finding it hard to communicate with them. He gets a hard time to socialize with the children hence immediately turns to taking alcohol. This is seen when he gets home and realizes how little he can talk to his children on the very first night and, instead start seeking the company of his fellow soldiers in the bar. This affects his whole family given that he heavily drinks all the night. On the other hand, the film also reveals other problems which tend to be very common to the former soldiers' alienation. Most of them felt unpleasant of being back in the social environment and could only get along with their fellow veterans.

Homer suffers serious burns while he was on the Navy ship. This was so serious that makes all his hands to be amputated. Homer becomes lucky as he is fixed for a pair of prosthetic gripping devices that has steel hooks. One of the characteristic of Homer is being a representative. He represented all veterans as well as, their struggles so as to fit back to the society. Despite the fact of him losing his hands during the war, he does not lose connections with people in the society or the visual symbol of the fact that a veteran will never be the same again because of his memories of the war. Homer also knows how to deal with great stress. Being that he is different from others, this denies him a chance of socializing with others. Although Homer was trained by the military on how to use his prosthetics he still considered himself as a burden to the society because there are no ways he could break away from by any means since he was not trained on how he could fit back into his society as well as handling his situation within it.
Conclusion

In conclusion, while watching the movie, one gets different great stories in one movie that tries to give an insight to the Second World War sociological problems through the difficulties for example; Fred and his wife live through, the troubles of Al fitting back into his family and the hardships Homer has to face.
