Most schools are very accommodating to students who are taking online classes because they do not have to leave the comfort of their home. The online experience is a good advantage for those who do speak English and those who do not have English as a native language. Along with that, students that are taking online classes reported flexibility, convenience of access and sense of control of their own class time feel that these are reasons to encourage others to take on the experience rather if they speak another language (Richards & Ridley, 1997). However, when taking online classes, one must have effective writing skills because most of the communication in an online classroom setting is in the written form. From there, effective writing is key to reach success in the online classroom setting.

Within an online classroom, a student can engage in an audio-textual chat room. They must listen or read the statement said or written in order to write and reply back. This goes along with the Finding activity that was mentioned previously. With that in mind, E-mails are also another form of writing, which needs to be very effective. This is due to that writing an email is like speaking in public (Lee, 2000). The audience must understand the emotion as well as the main ideas that support the in order to get the point across Since this is true, a learner must organize his/her thoughts and write them down in complete sentences, which enables students to free-write without any impositions (Singhal, 1997).

In order to write effectively in an online class, one must have clear ideas to support a solid thesis to get his or her point across (Marinara 2002). To have clear ideas, a person must know how to think critically. For example, critical thinking is very critical to writing effectively because it helps people see all angles of a thesis, which can determine whether or not the thesis will be clearly supported and stated. Along with that, critical thinking goes along with effective writing in order for the audience to understand the thesis that is being made (Scriven).

With online classes, the internet has become important in effective writing because of the sources that it provides. The Internet is gaining popularity in second language teaching while reshaping computer mediated communication in language learning. Students will need to learn how to deal with large amounts of information and be able to communicate across languages and cultures. From there, teachers are no longer the only source of information so that students can actively interpret and organize the information they are given, fitting it into prior knowledge (Dole, Duffy, Roehler, & Pearson, 1991). With that, the New Perspectives on CALL for Second Language Classrooms is a good choice for teacher trainers, students, or professionals interested in exploring technology-based teaching and learning. The internet and other resources help students to write effectively even if English is their second language.

Most schools are very accommodating to students who taking online classes, but they also provide a learning experience for the non-native speaking students that are trying to further their education in America. Fortunately, there are no disadvantages from online classroom since a person can learn to write effectively.
