Abstract

the work is divided in 4 parts. The meaning and encounters of witnessing. In the essay titled "The Entomology of Village Life," there are different characters who are friends. The impact of technological change (Internet). The conceptualization of internet, which is the short form of international network, has seen rapid changes both in the economical, social and political scenes of many countries in the globe. Taking a position. The writer is keen enough to develop and make a claim for the essay. The claim made in this article is that the readers need to acknowledge themselves with position papers, by reading and assessing position papers in a logical way.

¶ … Entomology of Village Life," there are different characters who are friends. There is Buddy and Colin who are great friends. Colin and Buddy encountered a scenario that made them witnesses in the essay. The two wanted to spend some time together and as the routine was, Buddy had come for Colin. Buddy would go to Colin's place, make noises around the trees, and scratch the dirt so that Colin could hear going around sniffing mole holes to raise attention and snapping at dandelions. When Colin heard all this and looked up, he saw Buddy standing stiff, and immediately heard a sound that was a moan. Colin jumped and the two looked at each other and they all heard the moan for the second time again. When they looked at the hooded graves, they barely saw anything. From the conversation they had, it was evident that they were thinking the moan came from the child spirits.

As they were still there, they heard the moan again, and they decided to turn towards where the sounds came from. The writer started to move towards the sound, and asked Buddy to stay, Colin also stayed as they both agreed and obeyed the writer's commands. They waited for about ten seconds, and started to follow the writer, as they grumbled quietly not to provoke any distractions. As they moved, the earth was damp and there were a lot of crunchy leaves, but both the writer and his friends were small and had a good chance of sneaking through the barriers. As the writer and his friends neared the area they headed to, the moans became more clear and frequent. There was a ragged breathe from the same scene too, and the writer together with his friends reached a place where they could get a clear view.

Writer and his friends witness an event

It is at that time that the writer and his friends witnessed an occurrence. They actually saw a car that had spinners on the wheels. On the car was a dark-haired girl, who awkwardly straddled there. The witnesses also saw James who was Old Jake's grandson, trying to make the girl moan louder. The writer and his friends, therefore, witnessed a sexual scene between James and a girl, whose name they did not know. They witnessed James jerk up and down, and the entire scene lead Colin and the others to be extremely mesmerized. The friends, surprised, glanced at each other and moved quietly away from their viewing point. In my opinion, this event that made the writer and all his friends, including Colin and Buddy, is what amounts to witnessing.

What it means to be a witness

Those who witness an event, like the writer and his friends earlier discussed in the article, are those that gain evidence. A witness is a person, who has the ability to provide evidence in a court of law, regarding certain matters of fact. The witness is expected to be of sound mind, and to have encountered certain scenarios that allowed him/her to acquire certain knowledge and understanding over the rest. The witness is expected to testify of the actual events witnessed that in most cases assist in understanding the truth and making certain fundamental decisions. Witnesses are expected to give information that is clear, with no mistake and without any reasonable doubt. They are obligated to ensure the data/information they provide is helpful in finding the truth when there are certain hidden issues that need to be exposed.

My encounter with witnessing

In elementary school, there was a lot of cunning behavior among some of the students, who wanted to do mistakes and try to blame others. Being the most responsible student, who was always neat and did my assignment as required, I was mandated to be the class assistant, acting as the liaison between the class teacher and the students. I welcomed the appointment with gratefulness, regardless of the fact I was not sure whether I would perform, considering the number of naughty pupils in the class. Somewhere within the semester, there evolved a disturbing tendency where packed food was stolen when the other students were away in the field playing. Definitely, someone was stealing the food and it was getting worse, when about four students complained every day that their food was stolen whenever they went out.

The trap was set on one Saturday afternoon, when Amos, the tallest boy in the class, seemed to be uninterested with going for games, as the routine suggested. As the rest went for games, I watched Amos hide in a classroom next to ours, until everyone had disappeared to the field. I hid behind the jacaranda tree near our class, just to watch the suspect's actions. After about twenty minutes into the games session, Amos went out of the class he hid in, and tiptoed to our class where he quickly unzipped two bags and started eating the food he found there, not keen enough to realize I was at the window, watching every move he took. Mr. Royford, the teacher on duty was luckily passing by, and he was willing to give me his phone. I took pictures of Amos as he cowardly took the last bite of the delicious looking burger. The pictures were used against Amos, who later denied being the thief of the class. This was actually the best witnessing event I was involved in, and it is unforgettable too.

The impact of technological change (Internet)

The conceptualization of internet, which is the short form of international network, has seen rapid changes both in the economical, social and political scenes of many countries in the globe. The internet has had great impact in both the different institutions and organizations together with integrating change to specific individuals. Many controversies regarding the effects of internet on people's lives, and whether technology, in general, has an impact in shaping values, patterns of social behavior and perceptions and attitudes exist. The internet has effects on the society, which is the larger scope, but this article will address its effects on individuals.

To begin with, it is necessary to appreciate the fact that the internet has brought about many innovations, which are influential on all age sets including children, the youth and even the elderly. The impact is so large and there is great generation of ideas through the internet, allowing its users to change their patterns in the way they express themselves, the modes and channels of communication have changed because of the internet, and many people are now getting all the motivation they need from the internet. The globe is now experiencing an era on net-generation, where almost everyone is dependent on the internet to get information, entertainment, comfort, do shopping and run many other errands.

The effects of internet

The internet, as earlier mentioned, has many impacts on individuals. The internet has become an inherent part of the society, and everyone is becoming addicted to the internet. Individuals need to accept that they are the social actors of technology in the society, regardless of the fact that different persons interact differently to the internet. The extent of familiarity and access to the internet differs from an individual to another. The social relationships of people all over the world has been changed by the internet, leading to a change in social objectives and advanced relationship structures brought about by the different social networking platforms such as twitter and facebook.

Internet and communication

Internet has enabled better communications in the current times. Better communication means communication that is more efficient, accurate and extremely fast. The internet has greatly changed the mode in which information is received and responded to. By the use of emails and other message sending platforms enabled by the internet, geographical differences are no longer a barrier to communications. The mass media groups are in better position to acquire information freely, news producers are now running to the internet as their largest source of information, different organizations are now linked through internet networks and it is now easier for the press to acquire the public's opinion on certain matters. People are currently having a better chance to interact and get messages from all over the globe, without necessarily sending letters that are now outdated. The public can also respond to news through the social media platforms making news coverage more effective and efficient. The best part of it is that all this interaction can easily be handled in the comfort of one's home.

Internet and entertainment

Gone are the days when the movie theaters and picnics were the only places to go for when seeking relaxation and entertainment. With the internet connections on the computers and phones at home, one has the ability to reach so many entertainment sites, which are in most cases free and easy to download. Music and movies are currently located on the internet, internet users are in a position to watch what they want, including comedy videos on YouTube, and those in search of music are in a position to get it from Google and other search engines.

The internet is a primary source of entertainment, the different cultural music and arts are uploaded on the internet, making the different cultures more accessible to the diverse cultures in other parts of the world. Apart from music and movies, which are freely ready for download on the internet, there is plenty of news on the internet, both in print and video form, which can be accessed by those interested. There is a lot of rebellion towards the use of internet, as some people are of the perception that some of the information from the internet might be prone to human error, and might be misleading to the users. Some authors and researchers have also indicated that there are several negative implications brought about by the internet; these include health, social and interpersonal implications, just but to name a few. Regardless of the criticisms and concern by certain groups of persons who have a negative perception concerning the internet, there is much evidence showing that the internet's advantages outweigh the negative implications.

Conclusion

The internet is a technological change that is inevitably used in the current society, and whose implications are overwhelming to individuals and the society. Many youths and enterprises are now relying on the internet to run their lives and businesses. It is mandatory to recognize that the internet is also playing the very important role in our lives, where it provides a platform for interaction and development of relationships. This is a fundamental and crucial aspect in the lives of the youth, who are always willing to keep in touch with their friends and relatives, regardless of the geographical distance between them.

Taking a position

The writer is keen enough to develop and make a claim for the essay. The claim made in this article is that the readers need to acknowledge themselves with position papers, by reading and assessing position papers in a logical way. The readers are in a position where they have the capability to criticize the paper, and realize with ease, any logical fallacies. In most cases, the fallacies include personal attacks, appeals to pity and oversimplification. The writer claims that at times, people are forced to bravely take stands, especially when critical thinking challenges one and they need to respond.

The writer's claim

In the writer's article, "Ah, the Power of Women," there is the claim that women possess the power over the men. This is contrary to many different perceptions by different authors who are of the opinion that men are the ones in charge, and those who portray women to be the weaker sex and gender. The main claim, therefore, is that women are authoritative in their own ways, and they can command over the men. The setting of the article is displayed in a manner to indicate that women can also roar, and that the current imagination that men are the authoritative gender is not true.

Is the claim arguable?

In the question of whether the claim is arguable or not, the question was well dealt with in the article. In the essay, the writer begins by indicating the general perception of men ruling over women. The writer then reverses his argument and insists that women are in a better chance to rule over the men, due to several powerful virtues they hold. There is, therefore, a clear argument development, which is well supported, qualifies appropriately, and is phrased in the most appropriate ways. The writer even goes to the extent of morning her mother and not mentioning her father, trying to bring an argument that women are in a better position to create greater relationships within themselves. The writer is very precise that, despite the American culture that depicts the woman to be a forceless being, the matriarchal American Culture provides a scene that shows women to be greater than men in general.

Are arguments Logical? (Evidence provided)

Most of the writer's arguments are logical. In the essay, the writer makes the claim very strong, by ensuring the evidences and examples given are logical and sensible. To proof the writer's claims are logical, a few of her opinions are well stipulated in the essay. The writer starts by appreciating the fact that women are more supreme than men in different and distinct aspects. One of the largest power of the women, according to the writer, is the sexual power they posses over the men. For instance, Lulu, one of the women characters in the essay is seen to have many affairs with men, yet she knows what she wants. When she gets what she wants, the rest are put aside, and that she got all these knowledge from other women, who were older and, therefore, advised her. She claimed that women are complete the way they are, and that the men came from the women. Lulu insisted, in the writer's works, that men enter into women repeatedly, as if they were in punishment of coming out the woman's body. Lulu also believed that her powerful position due to her feminist nature went as far as giving her mandate politically, and that women's sexuality allows them to gain an edge in social matters and influence.

Sufficiency of argument

The arguments of the writer are sufficient and precise. This is due to the fact that the writer is able to convince the readers that indeed, the women posses certain distinct virtues and capabilities, which the men lack completely, making the women to be authoritative over them in certain matters of sexuality and influence. The writer's argument provides a situation where women posses the social and political influence over the men. The writer is also keen enough to address any questions that would arise from the argument, and also counters the objections that are likely to occur if there was any reader that would be critical and analyze the essay accurately.

Writers tone

The writer's tone in the essay shows a stern and confronting mood, because of the arguments raised, to begin with, the writer posses an argument that is directly opposite from the viewers expectations. As other authors feed the readers with the obvious information, the writer in this case dares to oppose the other authors, and the general culture that men are dominating upon the women. The writer turns the whole attention to her literature, and the tone used is a demanding one, where she insists that women are in a better placed position in terms of political and social influence. The use of Lulu to explore the sexual power of women was to assist in the sending of information that is not yet with the readers, portraying women to be attractive and subduing the men. The argument provided by the writer is credible and authoritative, as it manages to convince the readers that indeed, there are some aspects that make the women more appealing and in charge and control of men.

In the essay, the reader has certain needs and values. One of the needs of the reader is that they want to take a position in the whole matter, and the argument provided by the writer would assist the readers in taking their positions. The writer, in this way of providing relevant evidence and building a sensible argument, connects with the reader, who is in the best position to understand the writer's point-of-view together with other aspects being raised and relayed to the readers.

How has social networking changed news journalism?

The manner in which news is spread today differs a lot from the olden days. Reporting has rapidly changed through a mutation process where the social media is taking over news reporting and coverage. The internet has increased in its centrality and everyone is now accessing the social media in everyday's lives. Many questions concerning the diversity of network societies over their implications on the consumption and production of news in the current times make most reviews. The question commonly asked is whether social media news coverage, will fully substitute or displace news that is in print form, such as newspapers, and whether this would result to losses in the business models and high quality journalism. If there is going to be a rapid shift from news journalism to social media news coverage, the there is high possibility for decreased diversity and quality of the coverage of news in general (Newman, Dutton & Blank 6).

After analysis, there is evidence that fourth estate, commonly known as the institutional news media, has been randomly using social media as a source of their information, and the social medias have also assisted them in the distribution of such information leading to a certain independence from fourth estate journalism. However, the fourth estate is overtaken by events, built on different activities that are networked by individuals who source and distribute the information on their own. One great attribute of institutional news journalism is their independence from other institutions such as the government. When any press is controlled and governed by the government, then it seizes to be a fourth estate, and becomes part of the government. However, when the institutions are independent, then there is no political pressure, and this allows for the investigation and reporting on other activities (Newman, Dutton & Blank 7).

The effects of Internet Technology

Internet technology is bringing revolutions and evolutions in news coverage, leading to remote effects on the news journalism, which is continuously being subdued. The development of new tools such as blogs and tweets and other social networks link sharing of information enabling those on social media to diversify and distribute news through streaming. Different ways have allowed for the realization, amplification and accessibility of news. The internet's impact, and the force from social media have both started to dominate, and their use has transformed the political, communications and commercial scenes. The news journalism is at stake, with such social media inventions and capabilities (O'Connor 14).

The field of information technology, through the social media, has seen and realized an era that allows for the networking, distribution and decentralization of news that spreads to fast around the world. The social media platforms are taking over from the suppressed news journalism style. The reality is slowly sinking to the media professionals and agents. The age of abundance in media and accessibility to distribution and production of news has ensured that the original way of priesthood news production by professionals is no longer in control, and news professionals are finding it difficult to cope with the pressure from the social media experts. New ways of creating news content, and easier ways of distribution through new channels, has allowed for accessibility of news to every part of the connected world, with the news reaching almost everyone (Pedersen 56).

There is risk that the social media is potentially receiving a lot of audience, who are exposed to news selectively, which is unmediated by any editors or professionals in the field of news production and anchorage. The role of the media, information and news governance is also changing, as the use of social media is enhanced. Social media such as facebook and tweeter have compounded these issues and raised questions of whether and in which way the social media transforms and reinforce developments of patters for exposure and substitution of information. The social media has affected and changed the links with public services, through the reshaping of certain communication patters to the public. Online news is slowly leading to greater propensity for the displacement of print media and other news journalism possibilities (Newman, Dutton & Blank 7).

News journalism started losing their battle to the social media news coverage a few years ago, when most of the social media platforms including facebook and tweeter where invented. The invention and continued support of the social media has resulted to the loss of trust in news journalism, and all media customers are showing great shift towards the social media news coverage. This loss of trust has resulted from the news journalism's poor performance and lack of capability over the years. Online news outlets such as facebook, tweeter, YouTube and the famous Google, have been supportive to ensure news reaches the entire world just in a flash of light. The social media sites currently provide reliable and meaningful information that has stolen enough trust from the people. The social media has eventually succeeded in ensuring that we, the customers, are detached completely from the older news coverage done by journalists (O'Connor 16).

Facebook, Twitter and other social networks

The social media has had a great impact on the production of news in the current times where there is dire need of simpler tools and channels of news coverage. The growth of social media and other simple tools of disseminating information in form of news such as; Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others, have ensured there is personal media, which results to a rebalance of relationship between customers and news producers. Initially, about fifty years ago, the mass media systems had just realized the use of television sets in the delivery of news. However, the media coverage was one-way, and only the professionals and those with necessary skill produced and distributed the news. Presently, the news coverage is more personal, enabled by the social media, and it is two-way in that the customers are in the best position to respond and reply to the news through the social media platforms (Newman, Dutton & Blank 13).
